vtun-2.5b1.tar.gz
Posted Aug 9, 2001
Authored by Maxim Krasnyansky | Site vtun.sourceforge.net

VTun is the easiest way to create Virtual Tunnels over TCP/IP networks with traffic shaping, compression, and encryption. It is a user space implementation and doesn't need modification of any kernel parts. VTun supports IP, PPP, SLIP, Ethernet, and other tunnel types. VTun is easily and highly configurable; it can be used for various network tasks like VPN, Mobil IP, Shaped Internet access, Ethernet tunnel, IP address saving, etc.

Changes: New stable release - Encryption fixes include improved challenge generation and a padding check. Empty passwords are not allowed anymore. A config option to specify syslog logging facility was added. Support for the new Linux TUN/TAP driver was added. I/O (read_n/write_n) cancellation was added. Signal handling and other minor fixes were made. Documentation was updated.

anomy-sanitizer-1.40.tar.gz
Posted Aug 9, 2001
Authored by Bjarni R. Einarsson | Site mailtools.anomy.net

The Anomy mail sanitizer is a filter designed to block email-based attacks such as trojans and viruses. It reads an RFC822 or MIME message and removes or renames attachments, truncate unusually long MIME header fields and sanitizes HTML by disabling Javascript and Java. It uses a single-pass pure Perl MIME parser, which can make it both more efficient and more precise than other similar programs and has built-in support for third-party virus scanners.

Changes: Many bugfixes to the MIME parser and filename policy code. Documentation on sendmail m4 configuration and sanitizing with Postfix has been added. The code has been reorganized a bit. A MIME simplifier has been added for people who want to strip attachments from messages destined for mailing lists.

crank-0.1.4.tar.gz
Posted Aug 9, 2001
Site crank.sourceforge.net

Crank is short for "CRyptANalysis toolKit", and its overall purpose is to provide a powerful and extensible GUI environment for solving classical (pen-and-paper) ciphers, providing as much automation as possible. Initial focus is on the cryptanalysis of monoalphabetic substitution ciphers. Screenshot here.

Changes: The makefile has been converted to use autoconf, and a "make install" target has been added. The GUI now has a toolbar. A new plugin type for plaintext comparisons has been introduced.

Nessus is a free, up-to-date, and full featured remote security scanner for Linux, BSD, Solaris and some other systems. It is multithreaded, plugin-based, has a nice GTK interface, and currently performs over 531 remote security checks. It has powerful reporting capabilities (HTML, LaTeX, ASCII text) and not only points out problems, but suggests a solution for each of them. Windows version available here.

Changes: A bug which caused the client to crash when sending long plugin list has been fixed. Various issues and a deadlock in the libpeks have been fixed. There are now more plugins and over 700 security checks.

virge-2.03.tar.gz
Posted Aug 9, 2001
Site vanja.com

Virge is mail scanner written in C which requires Sendmail, and AVPDaemon or Sophie (for virus checking). It can check mail for virii, and also for attachment names (regular expressions, full names, etc). It scans mail for virii very quickly, since the virus scanners used are always loaded in memory.

Changes: A case sensitivity bug related to strstr() usage has been fixed and an infinite loop in fgets() has been fixed that occurred if the ending boundary was missing/invalid.

hogwash-0.1.d.tgz
Posted Aug 9, 2001
Authored by Jason Larsen | Site hogwash.sourceforge.net

Hogwash is designed to take out 95% of the stock attacks all the kiddies throw at your network by dropping packets flagged by Snort. Hogwash is a layer 2 packet scrubber which sits in line, dropping packets based on signature matches. The rule set will be familiar to anyone that has used snort before. Hogwash supports passive host identification and adaptive rule sets for added accuracy.

Changes: Many bugfixes, unicode decoding, and session tear down.
