Issue date: 2016-05-12
CVE Names: CVE-2016-0773
=====================================================================

1. Summary:

An update for postgresql92-postgresql is now available for Red Hat
Satellite 5.7.

Red Hat Product Security has rated this update as having a security impact
of Important. A Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) base score,
which gives a detailed severity rating, is available for each vulnerability
from the CVE link(s) in the References section.

2. Relevant releases/architectures:

Red Hat Satellite 5.7 (RHEL v.6) - s390x, x86_64
Red Hat Satellite Managed DB 5.7 (RHEL v.6) - s390x, x86_64

3. Description:

PostgreSQL is an advanced object-relational database management system
(DBMS).

Security Fix(es):

* An integer overflow flaw, leading to a heap-based buffer overflow, was
found in the PostgreSQL handling code for regular expressions. A remote
attacker could use a specially crafted regular expression to cause
PostgreSQL to crash or possibly execute arbitrary code. (CVE-2016-0773)

Red Hat would like to thank PostgreSQL upstream for reporting this issue.
Upstream acknowledges Tom Lane and Greg Stark as the original reporters.

4. Solution:

For details on how to apply this update, which includes the changes
described in this advisory, refer to:

https://access.redhat.com/articles/11258

For this update to take effect, Red Hat Satellite must be restarted
("/usr/sbin/rhn-satellite restart"). If the postgresql service is running,
it will be automatically restarted after installing this update.

5. Bugs fixed (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/):

1303832 - CVE-2016-0773 postgresql: case insensitive range handling integer overflow leading to buffer overflow
